Community Involvement

In 1895, Sugar River Bank was founded by Perley A. Johnson and a group of local businessmen who saw the need for a local bank managed by local people committed to the growth and prosperity of the community.

Sugar River Bank opened its doors to farmers, homeowners and businesses on May 9, 1895, succeeding the Public Guaranty Savings Bank, which was located in the Municipal Building on Main Street in Newport.

Today we’re five branches strong, serving the communities of Newport, Grantham, Sunapee, New London and Warner. Our philosophy of how we operate the bank is still the same as it was over 100 years ago. We’re committed to the people and communities we serve and to the growth of our area. We continue to expand our services to meet the needs of our customers and those of the business community.

Many of our officers and staff are members of community organizations and serve on the boards of local businesses and non-profits. After over 100 years, we’re proud to say that Sugar River Bank is still locally owned and operated by dedicated people who live and work in the communities we serve.
